Pendrive Management

In locations where communication wiring is impractical, or communications with a particular device are lost, the vPod can operate in a stand-alone fashion.

Punches and templates are downloaded to the pendrive at the device location, as described in the USB Management section of the vPod Setup Manual, and brought to an internet-connected PC.  The files on the pendrive can then be sent to a Val Link authorized user, where they are uploaded to Val Link via the Pendrive Management function as described here.  The uploaded records may be viewed using the Clock Records function.

Note

If newly enrolled employees are included in the pendrive data, their Reader ID must be linked to their actual Vision/Vault ID number (Link Templates function) so that subsequent T&A transactions (Shift Start, Shift End, etc.) are associated with the employee.

Pendrive Uploads

Once punches and templates are downloaded to the pendrive at the device location, an authorized user can upload the data to Val Link, either directly from the Pendrive (by placing the pen drive into the USB port on the authorized user's PC) or from files retrieved from the Pendrive and sent from a remote location.

1. Select the source Device of the pendrive data from the drop-down list.

Datalog Upload

An ”attlog” file on the pendrive contains the punch transactions from the source device.

2. Click to open Windows Explorer and select the file.

3. Click from Windows Explorer to populate the AttLog File field.

4. You must acknowledge  that you have selected the correct device before clicking to send the file to Val Link.

  • If the upload to Val Link is successful, the system displays an appropriate message.

  • If an incorrect file is selected, the system displays an appropriate message.

Datalog Clear

Once you successfully complete the Datalog upload, you should delete the Datalog on the source device to avoid uploading the same attendance (Shift Start, Shift End, etc.) records again and again.  This also creates space on the device for future punches.  To delete the Datalog, the device Supervisor must use the Del Attlogs function in the biometric device menu (Options>System Opt>Adv Option>Del Attlogs).

Template Upload

A ”template” file on the pendrive contains the fingerprint templates from the source device.

5. Click to open Windows Explorer and select the file.

6. Click from Windows Explorer to populate the Template File field.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the User File (user.dat)

8. You must acknowledge  that you have selected the correct device before clicking to send the file to Val Link.
